Your Visit, Simplified: A Patient Journey at McPeak Optometry

MO May2025 patient journeyBooking an eye exam should feel easy and straightforward. At McPeak Optometry, we want you to know exactly what to expect when you walk through our doors—whether you're visiting our Hiawatha or Falls City location. Here’s a quick, step-by-step guide so you can feel confident and prepared for your next visit.

Before You Arrive: Easy Appointment Prep

Once your appointment is scheduled, our system automatically sends out pre-visit forms two days before. These forms allow you to fill in your health history, medications, and insurance details in advance—saving you time when you check in.

If you’re unable to complete the forms online, no problem! Just arrive 10–15 minutes early to fill them out in person.

What to bring:

  • Insurance information
  • A photo ID
  • Any current glasses or contact lenses
  • A list of medications if applicable

Step One: Pre-Testing & Intake

Once you check in, we’ll:

  • Verify your demographic and health history
  • Take a quick blood pressure reading
  • Use our autorefractor to measure your initial vision profile

This process takes about 5–10 minutes and gives us a solid baseline before you see Dr. McPeak.

Step Two: The Comprehensive Eye Exam

Your appointment includes two main parts:

1. Refraction – Determines your prescription for glasses or contacts
2. Eye Health Evaluation – Screens for glaucoma, macular degeneration, dry eye, and other issues

Interested in contacts? Dr. McPeak will perform a contact lens fitting during the same visit and help you find the best option for your vision and comfort.

Step Three: Frames, Fittings & Finishing Touches

If you’re ordering glasses, one of our trained opticians will:

  • Help you choose the perfect frame for your face and lifestyle
  • Take custom measurements for a great fit
  • Review lens options including progressives, blue light filters, and more
  • Once your glasses are ordered, expect them to arrive in about 10–14 days. We’ll call you when they’re ready for pickup.

What About Contact Lenses?

If you’re being fitted for contacts:

  • We’ll provide a trial pair (if in stock) so you can test them at home
  • If we need to order them, they usually arrive within a week
  • You’ll get a call once they’re ready for pickup

Accessibility & Parking Info

Both of our locations are fully wheelchair accessible and easy to reach:

  • Hiawatha: Street parking is available right in front of the office, near the town clock
  • Falls City: Convenient side parking and located across from Cobes Dental

For those without transportation, community bus and taxi services are available in both towns.

Running Late or Need to Reschedule?

We offer a 10–15 minute grace period for late arrivals. If something comes up, just give us a call—we’re happy to reschedule with 48 hours’ notice.
